Course Delivery and Structure

The TAESS00011 Assessor Skill Set course is delivered via Mixed Mode Online Delivery. It is a combination of self-paced learning, face to face webinars, workplace learning, and online learning. The course also requires completion of specified competency standards and assessment requirements in a vocational workplace.

This delivery method makes the course available Australia-wide, with learners from major cities like Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney enrolling throughout the year. You can commence your course anytime and study at a pace and schedule most convenient to you.

Prior to enrolment, learners will be asked to complete a Personal Learning Plan Evaluation to determine their existing relevant knowledge and skills and to know how much training they need. This process identifies each learner into one of the following cohorts:

  • Beginner Cohort (Full Study Model) – this includes individuals who have limited knowledge or skill in the competence contained in this skill set and have no recent industry experience
  • Intermediate Cohort (Partial Study Model) – this includes individuals who have moderate prior knowledge and skill in the competence contained in this skill set and have limited recent related industry experience
  • Expert Cohort (Assessment Only) – this includes individuals who have current industry experience of 2 or more years and have extensive specific knowledge and skill in the competence contained in this skill set; they are recommended to undertake a full recognition pathway (this includes individuals who already hold the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and currently working in the VET sector)

You will be given up to 6 months to complete the course. Since it’s self-paced, dedicating more time to study helps you finish the course faster.

Expected Study Hours: There are up to 451 study hours required for this skill set, depending on each learner’s existing relevant knowledge, skills, and experience

Assessment Methods: The learners will be assessed using a combination of written questions, case studies, projects (product based methods), and their skills logbook during vocational placement, which includes workplace observation, third party evidence, portfolio, and written and oral questions

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for the TAESS00011 Assessor Skill Set course. However, it is recommended that learners:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Have sound language and literacy skills (at least Year 10 English, or equivalent)
  • Have basic computer skills
  • Obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI)

The TAESS00011 Assessor Skill Set is comprised of the following 4 units:

  • TAEASS401 – Plan assessment activities and processes
  • TAEASS402 – Assess competence
  • TAEASS403 – Participate in assessment validation
  • TAEASS502 – Design and develop assessment tools

To complete your course, you will need to have ongoing access to:

  • A computer with Internet access that has a reliable speed of at least 5mbps
  • Google Chrome (recommended browser)
  • Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, or equivalent applications
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader or equivalent application
  • Video recording equipment (e.g. mobile phone or video recorder)
  • A registered training organisation (RTO) qualified to train and assess for Vocational Placement
  • A qualified assessor* under the chosen Vocational Placement who will supervise assessments

*A qualified assessor is a VET practitioner qualified to provide assessment in accordance to Clauses 1.23 of Standards for RTOs 2015.

Vocational Placement

To successfully complete the TAESS00011 Assessor Skill Set course, learners will need to initiate contact with an approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to complete workplace-based experience and solidify relevant practical experience and skills.

For learners who are already working in an RTO, they may nominate their current workplace for the purposes of completing their Skills Logbook/Workbook requirements. Their workplace must then meet the requirements from the Workplace Approval Checklist and must also be approved by Inspire’s Vocational Placement Coordinator.

The vocational placement will be conducted according to these documents:

  • Vocational Placement Provider/Supervisor Information Pack
  • Vocational Placement Student Information Pack
  • Vocational Placement Coordinator Information Pack
  • Vocational Placement Agreement

The Vocational Placement Agreement is required to be signed by all parties prior to the commencement of the actual vocational placement. The learner, the vocational placement provider, and the Inspire Education Vocational Placement Coordinator will be provided with the corresponding vocational placement information pack outlining each party’s rights and responsibilities in relation to vocational placement.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Inspire Education has a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy to ensure that an individual’s prior learning, achieved through formal and informal training, work experience or other life experiences, is appropriately recognised. This recognition may assist learners to progress faster through a unit of competency, or allow them full credit.

Where a student has expressed in the enrolment form their interest for completing the course through the RPL pathway (Assessment Only), the RPL Assessor Group is advised by the LMS and a call will be made by an RPL Specialist within 2 weeks of the student’s enrolment date to provide RPL information and determine the amount of RPL the student can complete. Where a call was not successful, a message will be sent to the student’s LMS account.

Candidates will use the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment RPL Kit/Evidence Guides provided by Inspire Education to gather and submit their evidence and assess competence for the units in this Skill Set.

Qualification Pathways

Individuals enrolled in this course may wish to study other courses that will support them in their training skills by allowing them to train in a specialist area and/or will allow them to work partly as a trainer and partly as a technical specialist.
