The Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety course in Sydney will provide you first-class training and student support while you undertake your training in health and safety in the workplace. It is a fully Nationally Accredited and Nationally Recognised OH&S training course designed to meet the needs of health and safety specialists in both business and industry.

Cert IV WHS BSB41415 Course units

The Sydney Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety course (BSB41415) is comprised of 10 units – 5 core units plus 5 elective units. This workplace health and safety course is now the minimum requirement for OHS safety officer duties and management in many workplaces and is designed to enable participants to contribute to an organisation’s OH&S Management Systems.

Core Units include (5 total):

BSBWHS402 – Assist with compliance and WHS laws
BSBWHS403 – Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS consultation and participation processes
BSBWHS404 – Contribute to WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control
BSBWHS405 – Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS management systems
BSBWHS406 – Assist with responding to incidents

Electives (complete 5 of 5):

BSBCMM401 – Make a presentation
BSBRES401 – Analyse and present research information
BSBWHS408 – Assist with effective WHS management of contractors
BSBWRT401 – Write complex documents
BSBRSK401 – Identify risk and apply risk management processes


There are no formal prerequisites required to undertake our Sydney Cert IV in Work Health and Safety course, however it does require that you have sound language and literacy skills, and basic to intermediate computer and word processing skills.

To support you in your studies Inspire will provide:

  • Simulated environment (in cases where the student does not have access to a workplace)
  • Organisational policies, procedures and other workplace documentation (including WHS templates and more)
  • Access to relevant acts, regulations and standards, licensing requirements, risk management documentation, tools, and frameworks and other relevant documents about workplace safety, hazard identification, and risk assessment

To complete your studies you will need to have:

  • A computer with Internet access with a reliable speed of at least 5mbps
  • Google Chrome browser
  • Where possible, access to a workplace where you can complete your assessments under a supervisor (Inspire Education will provide a simulated environment for students unable to secure a workplace for their assessments)
  • The latest Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • The latest MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or equivalent applications
  • Video recording equipment (e.g. mobile phone) to record presentations OR access to a supervisor who will observe and provide feedback
  • At least 2 people to provide written feedback on presentations
  • Access to office equipment and resources
  • Where possible, access to workplace personnel
  • Relevant policies, procedures and documents used in your workplace, unless you are taking the simulation pathway (documents include WHS templates, relevant acts, regulations and standards, licensing requirements, risk management documentation, tools, and frameworks and other relevant documents about workplace safety, hazard identification, and risk assessment
