What Will You Learn in the Cert IV in WHS Course?

By the time you finish your Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety BSB41415 with Inspire Education (RTO# 32067), you will have a sound understanding of the Australian Safety regulations and best practice.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements to enter the Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety BSB41415, however, it is preferred that students:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Have sound language and literacy skills (at least Year 10 English, or equivalent)

Students are required to:

  • Obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI)
  • Provide a valid ID with his/her picture and signature
  • Undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy Evaluation
  • Undertake a Personal Learning Plan Evaluation before accessing the course materials and commencing studies

All students considering a self-paced online course should give consideration to the following prior to enrolment:

The BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety supersedes the old BSB41412 and BSB41415 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety courses and the older BSB41407 Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety course. This latest Cert IV WHS is now the newest standard in Safety Officer training and workplace health safety.

The Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (BSB41415) is comprised of 10 units – 5 core units plus 5 elective units. Many workplaces look for the skills covered in this work health and safety course in someone conducting safety officer duties. Our course elective units have been carefully selected to enable participants to contribute to an organisation’s OH&S systems with confidence.

Core Units:

BSBWHS402 – Assist with compliance with WHS laws
BSBWHS403 – Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS consultation and participation processes
BSBWHS404 – Contribute to WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control
BSBWHS405 – Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS management systems
BSBWHS406 – Assist with responding to incidents

Elective Units:

IMPORTANT: Students will need access to a workplace to complete workplace-based assessments. Where the students does not have access to a workplace, they may complete these assessments using simulated workplace activities included in the course.

Course Outline & Structure

Expected Study Hours:  There are a total of up to 735 expected study hours for this course, depending on your existing skills and knowledge. To assess your knowledge, you will be asked to complete a Personal Learning Plan Evaluation after you enrol. Upon completion, you will be provided with a training plan that identifies your cohort, taking into account your existing level of knowledge and skill in this vocational area.

The amount of training and support required for each learner will vary according to their existing experience, knowledge and skills.

Inspire Education has identified four student cohorts:

  • Beginner Cohort (Full Study Model) – includes learners with limited relevant knowledge or skill in the competence contained in this qualification; no recent related industry experience; study hours is up to 735 hours
  • Intermediate Cohort (Partial Study Model) – includes learners with moderate relevant knowledge and skill in the competence contained in this qualification; limited recent related industry experience; study hours is up to 575 hours
  • Advanced Cohort (Partial Recognition Pathway) – includes learners with extensive relevant knowledge and skill in the competence contained in this qualification; recent related industry work experience of one year or more; study hours is up to 385 hours
  • Expert Cohort (Assessment only) – consists of individuals with current industry experience of 2 or more years and extensive relevant knowledge and skill in the competence contained in this qualification; these candidates are recommended to undertake a full recognition pathway; this includes candidates holding the BSB40212 Certificate IV in Business who are currently working in the industry; study hours is up to 368 hours

Assessment Methods

Assessment is conducted using a combination of knowledge assessment, case studies (compiling a portfolio and/or work samples, producing reports or displays, conducting role-plays, performing presentations), self-reflection, and practical assessment to give you maximum opportunity to develop your knowledge in workplace health and safety.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

RPL is available to any learner who can provide evidence of competency for the units offered within the qualification. The learners will use the new and latest TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment RPL Kit/Evidence Guides provided by Inspire Education to gather and submit their evidence and assess competence.
