What Will You Learn in the Community Services Course?

You will learn how to fulfil the critical functions of case management as workers involved in the managing, coordinating, and/or delivering of person-centered services to individuals, groups, and communities, and contributing to the community services industry.

Other critical skills and knowledge you will learn are the Australian legal and ethical frameworks you need to follow as a community service worker, how to develop, facilitate and review all aspects of case management, and how to develop and implement service programs as a member of the community services industry.

In the Case Management specialisation of the CHC52015, your additional focus will be on how to provide case management supervision, facilitate workplace debriefing and support processes, and also lead and manage team effectiveness.

Additionally, throughout our Community Services course you will learn practical skills to help you work and communicate effectively in the community services sector, follow and improve professional practice, and undertake project work.

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements for this course; however, it is recommended that students:

  • Are at least 18 years old
  • Have sound language and literacy skills (at least Year 10 English, or equivalent)
  • Have basic computer skills

Students are required to:

  • Provide a valid ID with his/her picture and signature

Course Outline & Structure

Inspire Education has clustered the CHC52015 to create a more effective and easy to follow learning experience. By grouping together similar course units, we have minimised the amount of repetitive course work you have to do to gain your qualification.

This means that you only need to complete 7 workbooks (including Skills Workbook) to complete your course instead of studying and submitting requirements for each unit individually.

You will complete a Personal Learning Plan Evaluation as part of your enrolment. You will then be provided with a training plan that identifies your Cohort, taking into account your existing level of relevant knowledge and skills.

The amount of training and support required for each learner will vary on these 4 Cohorts:

  • Beginner (Full Study Model) – Limited relevant knowledge or skill in the competence contained in this qualification. No recent related industry experience. Study hours is up to 1150 hours
  • Intermediate (Partial Study Model) – Moderate relevant knowledge and skill with limited recent related industry experience. Study hours is up to 850 hours
  • Advanced (Partial Recognition Pathway) – Learners who have previously worked in a community services role without any recent industry experience; includes learners who may be working in a role related to community services for their own business without any formal qualifications for at least a year; also includes learners who have previously completed superseded versions of this qualification. Study hours is up to 640 hours
  • Expert (Assessment only) – Learners who are currently working in a role related to case management, or any similar roles for the last 3 years; these candidates are recommended to undertake a full recognition pathway. Study hours is up to 460 hours

Expected Study Hours

There are up to 1150 study hours for this course (including Vocational Placement), depending on your industry experience and relevant knowledge.

Assessment Methods

Assessment is conducted using a combination of Questioning (e.g. written questions/questionnaire, knowledge assessment, self-reflection, and self-evaluation), Product-based Methods (e.g. project, practical assessment, case study, and structured tasks), Portfolio (e.g. portfolio, skills workbook, workplace assessment workbook, and logbook), Direct Observation (e.g. assessments that involve observing the candidates as they complete tasks relevant to the requirements of the course), and Third-Party Evidence (e.g. observation, skills workbook, workplace assessment workbook, logbook, and third-party reports).

Vocational Placement

Due to units containing mandatory workplace skills components, students will undertake a minimum of 100 hours to a maximum of 240 hours of work placement within a registered and approved organisation.

Work placement is designed to ensure students gain hands on experience in a community organisation to demonstrate practical skills they have learned throughout the course.

Students are required to complete Subjects 1-6 before entering their Vocational Placement.

Your Vocational Placement Provider must provide access to:

  • At least three (3) clients with access to services based on socio-cultural information gathered
  • Organisational policies and procedures
  • Workplace documents
  • Two (2) workers in the vocational placement facility
  • Use of suitable facilities, equipment, and resources

Note: Students may be required to complete a Police Check, Blue Card or Working With Children Check prior to commencing their vocational placement at their chosen facility. Any costs will be shouldered by the student. For students planning to do their vocational placement in Queensland, the National Health and Medical Research Council recommends immunisation for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and influenza. Similar regulations in other states and territories may also apply to you.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Inspire Education has a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy to ensure that an individual’s prior learning, achieved through formal and informal training, practical experience, work experience, or other life experiences, is appropriately recognised.

To gain RPL, eligible students will need to supply evidence as either an existing worker in a related job, or from their past experience.

This recognition may assist students to progress faster through a unit of competency, or allow the student full credit.
