What Will You Learn in our Aged Care Course?

Our CHC30212 Aged Care Course will teach you many of the important aspects of the day to day caring for elderly individuals within your community. You will learn how to work effectively with older people and meet their particular care needs, and deliver care services that support individual health and emotional well-being.

This course will give you the tools you need to support older people to maintain their independence, identify healthy body systems, assist with medication, and provide support for people living with dementia.

Additionally, throughout our aged care courses you will learn more general skills to help you work and communicate effectively in the community sector, follow safety procedures, and comply with information requirements of the aged and community care sectors.

Course Outline & Structure

Expected Study Hours:  There are a total of 1200 expected study hours for this course (including Vocational Placement). This equals approximately 23 hours of study per week, however you may work at your own pace and complete your course faster if you’d like!

Assessment Methods:  Assessment is conducted using a combination of written questions, case studies, observation and a skills journal to give you maximum opportunity to develop your knowledge in aged care.

CHC30212 Course Units

The Cert III in Aged Care is comprised of 10 core units, and 4 electives (14 units in total). It is Australia’s nationally recognised and accredited qualification in aged care, and our elective units have been carefully selected to ensure they meet the needs of a wide range of care professionals looking to care for elderly people.

CHCAC319A – Provide support to people living with dementia
CHCCS411C – Work effectively in the community sector
CHCICS301B – Provide support to meet personal care needs
CHCICS302B – Participate in the implementation of individualised plans
CHCICS303A – Support individual health and emotional wellbeing
CHCWHS312A – Follow WHS safety procedures for direct care work
CHCPA301B – Deliver care services using a palliative approach
HLTAP301B – Recognise healthy body systems in a health care context


CHCDIS301C – Work effectively with people with disability
HLTFA311A – Apply first aid*
HLTHIR403C – Work effectively with culturally diverse clients and co-workers
CHCICS304B – Work effectively with carers

This Aged Care course shares some units with other community care qualifications, such as the Certificate III in Home and Community Care (CHC30312) or the Certificate III in Disability (CHC30408). Inspire offers a Combined Certificate III in Aged Care and Home and Community Care so that you can complete both qualifications at the same time!

* NOTE: The HLTFA311A Apply First Aid unit is NOT delivered by Inspire Education, students must organise the completion of this unit via an external provider.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal prerequisites required to enter this CHC30212 aged care course.
However, it is preferred that students:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Have sound language and literacy skills (at least Year 10 English, or equivalent)
  • Have basic computer skills

Students must undergo a police check for a criminal background in order to work in this field, and may have to undertake additional manual handling training before commencing Vocational Placement.

To complete your studies you will need to have access to:

  • A Computer (PC or Mac) with Internet (a minimum reliable speed of 5mbps is recommended)
  • Google Chrome Web Browser

  • Latest Adobe Flash Player
  • Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel 97 or later (or equivalent)
  • A Registered Aged Care Facility to complete vocational placement

Vocational Placement

To successfully complete this qualification you will need to initiate contact with a registered Aged Care facility to complete workplace-based experience (minimum 80 hours and maximum 240 hours). This is to give you  practical experience in working with elderly persons and has been specifically designed to assist you develop the knowledge and skills required to work safely and effectively with elderly individuals.

Note: If you decide to undertake the Combined Certificate course option including TWO Certificates (Aged Care and Home & Community Care), you will be required to complete TWO work placements, one with a Home and Community Care provider AND the second in an Aged Care facility. Costs associated with completing the required Police Check, Blue Card or Working With Children Check will be shouldered by the student.
