What Are The New Qualification Standards?
Attention Trainers! You Need TAE40110 By 1 July 2013!
As per the National Skills Standards Council meeting for determination of the training and assessor competencies, all trainers have until the end of the transitional period, 1 July 2013, to upgrade or gain the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40110.
Who Needs TAE40110?
The Cert IV Training and Assessment is the minimum qualification required to be held by a trainer. Trainers and assessors working within the vocational education sector are required to satisfy the minimum qualification requirement by July 2013 and trainers new to the industry have two years after the date of commencement to comply.
AQTF Standard 1.4a
From 1 July 2013, trainers must:
(i) hold TAE40110 from the TAE10 Training and Assessment Training Package as a minimum qualification; OR demonstrate competency equivalence;
(ii) be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being delivered and assessed;
(iii) be able to demonstrate they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills as well as maintaining industry currency and competence.
And that assessors must:
(i) hold the TAE10 Assessor Skill Set or be able to demonstrate equivalence of competencies;
(ii) be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed;
(iii) be able to demonstrate they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills as well as maintaining industry currency and assessor competence.
What If I Have A Previous Qualification?
Teaching Degrees and Qualifications
To work as a trainer within the Australian Vocational Education and Training sector, the TAE40110 is compulsory. If you have significant experience you may be able to incorporate your degree into a recognised prior learning application and complete the remaining gaps in knowledge through a qualification. This may include:
• Past training qualifications
• Prior qualifications (now superseded)
• Professional Development
Vocational Training and BSZ Certification
For individuals holding the BSZ (and other superseded qualifications like the TAA), upgrading to the TAE40110 is still required, but the qualification will be included in evidence of prior training (for equivalency purposes).
Though the TAA and TAE40110 provide similar outcomes (like the BSZ), TAA holders are required to upgrade to the TAE40110. RPL and demonstration of equivalency may be available to identify gaps.
*IBSA’s Transition Guide to support the delivery of the reviewed TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (2010) includes a mapping table which indicates where units from the two qualifications are equivalent and where they are not. IBSA’s Self-assessment Tool: TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (2010) provides a process for self-assessment and collection of evidence to support recognition of competence. For more info visit >>> NSSC.
The TAE40110 is the very latest training and assessment qualification and is the industry standard for vocational sector trainers. The Certificate has been designed to recognise the notion that the delivery of training and assessment education in the vocational sector requires a higher and wider set of skills, knowledge and competence.
The new TAE40110 assumes the learner is actively engaged in a training and education environment (or has a skill set of the level that supports training and education in the subject area intended to teach). *There are no prerequisites to the TAE40110.
Who Should Study The TAE40110?
The TAE40110 is the perfect qualification for those wishing to be a:
• Registered Training Organisation (RTO) Trainer
• RTO Assessor/Trainer
• TAFE Teacher
• Enterprise Trainer and Assessor
• HR Manager
• Training Adviser
• Vocational Education Teacher
• Learning Manager
