Adult Learners Week (1 – 8 September) 2012

This week is Adult Learners’ Week (1st – 8th September) and nation-wide focus has been placed on technology skills and digital literacy.

What is Adult Learners’ Week?

Adult Learners’ Week (ALW) prompts Australia to celebrate digital literacy as part of the learning journey throughout life. ALW promotes and encourages lifelong learning.

  1. The meeting government’s goals were to lower illiteracy and promote completion of primary education.

  1. Almost 900 million adults are illiterate and 113 million children are without education.
  2. Approximately forty countries hold ALW.

ALW begun in 1992 in the UK and Australian events have been held 1995 onwards.

The week long even focuses on the health, aged care, environmental sectors and adult education – with many organisations holding events and activities.
