What is the TAE40110 to TAE40116 Upgrade?

Australians who currently hold the superseded TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment can now upgrade to the new TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification. If you have previously completed this old Cert IV TAE course, and want to gain the latest standard for workplace and vocational trainers in Australia, then upgrading to the TAE40116 is ideal for you.

The TAE40110 upgrade allows you to maintain your status as a fully-qualified trainer. This upgrade course will help you gain credit for course units you previously studied and your existing experience in the vocational education and training industry to fast track your new qualification.

In addition to acknowledging your current qualification and work experience, the new TAE upgrade course includes gap training for the new units and competencies included in the TAE40116 course. This includes the TAELLN411 – Address Adult Language, Literacy, and Numeracy Skills unit, and the TAEASS502 Develop Assessment Tools unit, and other training for units and/or competencies not included in the old Cert IV TAE.

Updating your TAE40110 to the New TAE40116 Couldn’t be Easier!

To update your TAE40110 qualification, simply follow the steps below:

  1. Enquire now and get complete course and enrolment information
  2. Provide a certified copy of your old TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification, or Statement of Attainment
  3. Provide evidence of any recent industry experience, employment, or professional development relevant to vocational education and training
  4. Undergo gap training for the newly added and updated course units


TAE40116 Upgrade Entry Requirements

To enrol in the TAE40110 upgrade course, you must be able to demonstrate vocational competency in your desired teaching and assessing area. This includes having broad knowledge and recent experience in your industry, or holding a relevant qualification.

You must also hold the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or at minimum a Statement of Attainment that includes the following units:

TAEDES401A – Design and develop learning programs
TAEDES402A – Use training packages and accredited courses to meet client needs
TAEDEL401A – Plan, organise and deliver group based learning
TAEDEL402A – Plan, organise and facilitate learning in the workplace
TAEASS401B – Plan assessment activities and processes
TAEASS402B – Assess competence
TAEASS403B – Participate in assessment validation

Learners must also:

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Have sound language and literacy skills (Year 10 English or equivalent)
  • Have basic computer skills
  • Provide a valid ID with picture and signature
  • Obtain a Unique Student Identifier
  • Complete a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy Evaluation
  • Complete a Personal Learning Plan Evaluation before accessing course materials

Course Delivery and Duration

Choose from 2  delivery options to upgrade your TAE40110 to the latest training qualification:

  1. Self-Paced Online Upgrade
    Study all gap training and the new course units at your own pace with premium course materials, and get up to 3 months to complete your upgrade! Learners can enrol and start anytime in this course.
  2. Face to Face Workshop
    Attend a 3-day or 4-day classroom session to jump start your TAE40116 Upgrade! The 3-day intensive Cert IV TAE workshop will cover gap training for the new/updated assessment units, while the 4-day class will include an additional workshop for the new ‘TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills’ unit. Learners will get up to 3 months of self-paced study after their workshop to complete any left over assessments.

To support you in your online training upgrade Inspire will provide:

  • Access to a student account in the Learning Management System (LMS) for submission
  • Tutorial Documents for Navigating the LMS
  • Training Plan
  • Learner Guides for each subject
  • Assessment Workbooks for each subject
  • Templates for completing Project Documents and other activities
  • Pre-recorded Webinars
  • Simulations, where applicable
  • Ongoing Trainer Support via Phone and Student Messaging System

To complete your online training upgrade you will need to have access to:

  • A Computer (PC or Mac) with Internet (a minimum reliable speed of 5mbps is recommended)
  • Google Chrome Web Browser
  • Latest Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Latest Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel
  • A Workplace or Training Environment with at least 4 Learners who have LLN requirements
  • Camera or Smart Phone to record videos for practical assessments

To successfully complete the qualification, students will need to complete the assessment requirements under the following assessment conditions:

Learners must gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Conditions must be typical of those experienced in the training and assessment environment, and include access to:

  • Units of competency used in assessment planning activities
  • Relevant organisational policies and procedures in relation to the assessment system
  • The texts and tasks usually found in the workplace
  • Units of competency and other materials used in validation sessions.
  • Real vocational learners*

*Real vocational learners: Learners undertaking training required for their employment or future employment and directly related to the specific skills needed for that employment

Course Units & Assessment Methods

The latest TAE40116 Cert IV in Training and Assessment has 10 total units, including 9 core units and 1 elective unit. Please click here to view the complete TAE40116 course units and requirements.

As a holder of the TAE40110 qualification, you will automatically get credited for 5 out of the 10 course units through a direct credit transfer. These units are:

  • TAEDES401A – Design and develop learning programs
  • TAEDES402A – Use training packages and accredited courses to meet client needs
  • TAEDEL401A – Plan, organise and deliver group-based learning
  • TAEDEL402A – Plan, organise and facilitate learning in the workplace
  • TAEASS402B – Assess competence

You will also get partial credit and gap training for 3 course units and avoid having to redo many course assessments. These units are:

  • TAEASS401A – Plan assessment activities and processes
  • TAEASS403 – Participate in assessment validation
  • BSBCMM401A – Make a presentation

You will complete all 2 new remaining assessments through gap training.

  • TAESS502 Design and develop assessment tools
  • TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills

Gap training will be through self-paced online learning and/or face to face workshops depending on your chosen delivery method. This includes of a mix of case studies, projects, role plays, presentations,  observation, and written questions.

If you have additional years of substantial and relevant work experience in an RTO/TAFE (at least 5 or more years), or in vocational education and training-related roles, you may gain more course credits through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). You will need to provide evidence to support your level of skills and knowledge for your TAE40110 to TAE40116 Upgrade.
