What Will You Learn in the Diploma of Training Design and Development (TAE50211) course?

This training design and development qualification incorporates core competencies such as designing and developing assessment tools, learning strategies and learning resources, and organisational training needs analysis. You will also develop abilities in specialist areas like e-learning, advanced assessment practice, and evaluating training programs.

Completing this course requires extensive access to learners and training environments. It is recommended that you be working in training or have extensive access to learners and training environments.

Course Structure & Outline

The TAE50211 Diploma of Training Design and Development is a nationally recognised and accredited Australian training and education course. It is an ideal way to develop your training career if you are involved in vocational training or assessing, designing training programs to meet the needs of learners and workplaces, and providing.

Course Duration: You will have up to 12 months to complete your training from your course start date. There are no set course dates so you can enrol and begin training straight away and complete the course as soon as you like!

Expected Study Hours: The TAE50211 course has an expected study time of 1222 hours. This equals approximately 23 hours per week over 12 months.

Assessment Methods: The TAE50211 Diploma of Training Design and Development is assessed using written questions, reflection, projects, written activities, observation, case studies and by gathering documents.

TAE50211 Units

The TAE50211 is comprised of 10 units – 5 core units and 5 elective units. Our elective course units have been carefully chosen to ensure they meet the needs of a wide range of professional training roles.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal prerequisite units required to study this diploma training course.

However, it is strongly recommended you have a TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment plus vocational experience OR extensive vocational experience in training and assessment roles in an RTO or similar organisation focusing on competency-based training and assessment.

It is also required that you:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Have sound language and literacy skills (at least Year 10 English and Maths, or equivalent)
  • Have basic computer skills

To complete your studies you will need to have access to:

  • A Computer (PC or Mac) with Internet (a minimum reliable speed of 5mpbs is recommended)
  • Google Chrome Web Browser
  • Latest Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Acrobat Reader (Essential for Mac users)
  • Microsoft Word and PowerPoint 97 or later
  • Webcam and USB Headset to participate in webinars – Optional
  • At least 15 participants for facilitation practicum (minimum 100 hours)
  • At least 2 e-learning delivery platforms to conduct 2 e-learning sessions (minimum of 3 participants per session).
  • Learners with LLN needs, an LLN specialist and LLN evaluation tools
  • At least 2 trainers/peers who conduct training for professional development tasks
  • A minimum 50 units of competency completed by minimum of 20 candidates
    Note: This may include previous student assessment if assessment sessions were appropriately documented.
  • Training Facilities to conduct sessions
  • Video recording equipment OR a Trainer/Assessor with the following units/qualifications to provide third party observations:
    • TAEDEL501A and TAEDEL502A
    • Authorised training supervisor with experience and relevant training qualifications

NOTE: Due to the large number of industry relevant practical assessment tasks, it is strongly recommended you either be currently working in a training role within the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector or have extensive access to VET learners and training environments when studying towards this qualification.

Qualification Pathways

After completing your TAE50211 Diploma of Training Design and Development, you could also develop your ability to manage VET development projects with the BSB51415 Diploma of Project Management.

You can also continue your training with more advanced TAE package qualifications such as:

  • TAE70210 – Graduate Certificate in Management (Learning)

Our TAE50111 + TAE50211 Double Diploma course is delivered online via self-paced learning and is comprised of a total of 10 units – 9 core units and 1 elective. These units cover the core competencies across both of the TAE Diploma qualifications. The Double Diploma course has an expected study time of 1222 hours and you will have 12 months to complete the course.

  • Latest Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Acrobat Reader (Essential for Mac Users)
  • Microsoft Word and PowerPoint 97 or later
  • Webcam and USB Headset to participate in webinars – Optional
  • At least 15 participants for facilitation practicum (minimum 100 hours)
  • One e-learning delivery platform to facilitate e-learning sessions (with minimum of 3 learners)
  • Learners with LLN needs, an LLN specialist and LLN evaluation tools
  • At least 2 trainers/peers who conduct training for professional development tasks
  • A minimum 50 units of competency completed by minimum of 20 candidates
    Note: This may include previous student assessment if assessment sessions were appropriately documented.
  • Video recording equipment OR a Trainer/Assessor with the following units/qualifications to provide third party observations:
    • TAEDEL502A or equivalent
