Course Structure & Outline

The TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development course is the latest nationally recognised and accredited Australian training and education course. Taking this qualification is an ideal way to develop your training career if you are involved in vocational training or assessing, designing training programs to meet the needs of learners and workplaces, and organisational training needs analysis.

Study Hours and Duration: This TAE Diploma course has an expected study time of up to 1296 hours. You will have up to 12 months to complete all assessments.

Assessment Methods: The TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development is assessed using written documents, photographs, videos or logbooks, case studies, projects, reflection, direct observation, and written questions.

TAE50216 Diploma Units

The TAE50216 is comprised of 10 units – 5 core units and 5 elective units. Our elective course units have been carefully chosen to ensure they meet the needs of a wide range of professional training roles.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal prerequisite units required to study this diploma training course.

However, it is strongly recommended you have a TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment plus vocational experience OR extensive vocational experience in training and assessment roles in an RTO or similar organisation focusing on competency-based training and assessment.

It is also required that you:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Have sound language and literacy skills (at least Year 10 English and Maths, or equivalent)
  • Have basic computer skills
  • Access to an RTO where you can deliver and assess qualifications, skills sets, and units of competency for the completion of the course.

To complete your studies you will need to have access to:

  • A Computer (PC or Mac) with Internet (a minimum reliable speed of 5mpbs is recommended)
  • Google Chrome Web Browser (Recommended)
  • The latest Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • The latest Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Video recording equipment or a qualified assessor holding TAEDEL501A (Facilitate e-learning) or its equivalent successor and TAELLN401A Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills or its equivalent successor
  • Learners for conducting delivery projects
  • At least 2 online delivery platforms such as Skype, GoToTraining, Blackboard, etc.
  • Peers to provide and receive professional feedback
  • Assessments of at least 20 individuals and a minimum of 50 units of competency (same units allowed)
  • A team of at least 3 assessors
  • Real vocational learners*
  • A workplace where you can complete your assessments under a supervisor (a simulated environment will be provided for you if you are unable to secure a workplace for your assessments — for units that are under the simulated pathway only)

*Real vocational learners are those training for employment and directly related to the specific skills needed for improvement

NOTE: Due to the large number of industry relevant practical assessment tasks, it is strongly recommended you either be currently working in a training role within the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector or have extensive access to VET learners and training environments when studying towards this qualification.

  • A Computer (PC or Mac) with Internet (ADSL 2+ and Google Chrome is recommended)
  • Latest Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Acrobat Reader (Essential for Mac Users)
  • Latest Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • Webcam and USB Headset to participate in webinars – Optional
  • At least 15 participants for facilitation practicum (minimum 100 hours)
  • One e-learning delivery platform to facilitate e-learning sessions (with minimum of 3 learners)
  • Learners with LLN needs, an LLN specialist and LLN evaluation tools
  • At least 2 trainers/peers who conduct training for professional development tasks
  • A minimum 50 units of competency completed by minimum of 20 candidates
    Note: This may include previous student assessment if assessment sessions were appropriately documented.
  • Video recording equipment OR a Trainer/Assessor with the following units/qualifications to provide third party observations:
    • TAEDEL502A or equivalent
    • TAELLN401A or TAELLN411
    • Authorised training supervisor with experience and relevant training qualifications
