What Will you Learn?

The Cert III in Home and Community Care (HACC) will teach you many facets of  individual and home care. You will learn how to work effectively with older people and meet their particular care needs, and deliver care services that support individual health and emotional well-being.

Certificate 3  in Home and Community Care training will give you the tools you need to support older people to maintain their independence, identify healthy body systems, provide support for people living with dementia and deliver care using a palliative approach.

Additionally, you will learn more generally how to: work effectively in the home and community sector; follow safety procedures; work effectively with other carers; and work with culturally diverse clients.

Course outline & structure

The Home and Community Care course offered by Inspire Education will provide you first-class training and student support while you undertake your studies in the Certificate III in Home and Community Care. We offer a range of Nationally Accredited training options designed to meet the needs of students/trainees, businesses and industry and our trainers are experts in the field of community services.

Course units

The Cert III in HACC is comprised of 9 core units, and 5 electives. It is Australia’s nationally recognised and accredited qualification in Home and Community Care, and is designed for those interested in becoming a community support worker, field officer, nursing assistant, care worker, and disability service officer.

During the course of your studies you will need to organise and complete between 80-240 hours workplace-based experience in a registered Home Care facility to solidify your practical experience and skills in working with aged persons. This course has been specifically designed to develop the knowledge and skills required to work safely and effectively with aged and disabled individuals, providing an opportunity for those with a passion for helping and community care to take a leading role in the care of our aged and disabled community.

NB: If you decide to undertake the combined course option including TWO Certificates (Aged Care and Home & Community Care), you will be required to complete TWO work placements, one with a Home and Community Care provider AND the second in an Aged Care facility.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal prerequisites for this Certificate 3 in Home and Community Care qualification, however it is recommended that students are 18 years of age or older, and have a sound understanding of English and Maths. Students are required to have the ability to read and write simple documents, and collect basic numeral data. Students must undergo a police check for a criminal background in order to work in this field. A senior First Aid Certificate is strongly recommended.

You will need to have:

• Access to a computer (PC or Mac) with Internet
• Adobe Flash Player 7
• Adobe Acrobat Reader (Essential for Mac Users)
• Microsoft Word 97 or later (for PC)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

RPL is offered to any Learner who can provide evidence of competency for the units offered within the qualification. During the enrolment process a potential Learner may complete a checklist and discuss any prior evidence before commencing training to determine if they are eligible for RPL.
