What Will you Learn in the Certificate III in Home and Community Care?

This is Australia’s latest Certificate III in Home and Community Care course (CHC30312) which supersedes the older Certificate III in Home and Community Care CHC30308 qualification.

Our Certificate III in Home and Community Care will teach you many facets of  individual and home care. You will learn how to work effectively with older people and meet their particular care needs, and deliver care services that support individual health and emotional well-being.

Our Home and Community Care Course will give you the tools you need to support older people to maintain their independence, identify healthy body systems, provide support for people living with dementia and deliver care using a palliative approach.

Additionally, you will learn more generally how to: work effectively in the home and community sector; follow safety procedures; work effectively with other carers; and work with culturally diverse clients.

Certificate III in Home and Community Care Course Outline

Inspire Education will provide you first-class training and student support while you undertake your studies in the nationally-recognised Certificate III in Home and Community Care.

Course Delivery:  The most effective and popular method of delivery for our home care course is Online Learning, enabling your to work on your Certificate III in Home and Community Care at your own pace.

Course Duration:  You will have 12 months to complete the course from your enrolment date through online learning. Inspire Education has a continual intake of students on this basis.

Nominal Hours:  There are a total of 577 nominal hours for this course (including Vocational Placement). This equals approximately 11 hours of study per week, however, because you work at your own pace you may complete your course faster if you’d like!

Assessment Methods:  Assessment is conducted using a combination of written questions, case studies, observation and a skills journal to give you maximum opportunity to develop your knowledge in aged care.

Cert III Home and Community Care Course Units

The Cert III in Home and Community Care is comprised of 9 core units, and 5 electives. It is Australia’s nationally recognised and accredited qualification in Home and Community Care, and our elective units have been carefully selected to ensure they meet the needs of a wide range of care professionals.

CHCAC319A – Provide support to people living with dementia
CHCCS411C – Work effectively in the community sector
CHCHC311C – Work effectively in home and community care
CHCDIS301C – Work effectively with people with disability
CHCICS301B – Provide support to meet personal care needs
CHCICS302B – Participate in the implementation of individualised plans
CHCICS304B – Work effectively with carers
CHCWHS312A – Follow WHS safety procedures for direct care work

Electives (complete 5 of 5):

HLTAP301B – Recognise healthy body systems in a health care context
HLTHIR403C – Work effectively with culturally diverse clients and co-workers
CHCAC317A – Support older people to maintain their independence
CHCICS303A – Support individual health and emotional well being
CHCPA301B – Deliver care services using a palliative approach

This Home and Community Care course shares some units with other community care qualifications, such as the Certificate III in Aged Care or the Certificate III in Disability. Inspire offers a Combined Certificate III in Aged Care and Home and Community Care so that you can complete both qualifications at the same time!

* NOTE: The HLTFA311A Apply First Aid unit is NOT delivered by Inspire Education, students must organise the completion of this unit via an external provider.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal prerequisites required to enter the Certificate III in Home and Community Care.
However, it is preferred that students:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Have sound language and literacy skills (at least Year 10 English, or equivalent)
  • Have basic computer skills

To complete your studies you will need to have access to:

  • A Computer (PC or Mac) with Internet (ADSL 2+ and Google Chrome is recommended)
  • Latest Adobe Flash Player
  • Latest Adobe Acrobat Reader (Essential for Mac Users)
  • Microsoft Word 97 or later
  • A Registered Facility to completed vocational placement

Students must undergo a police check for a criminal background in order to work in this field, and may have to undertake additional manual handling training before commencing Vocational Placement.

Vocational Placement

To successfully complete this qualification you will need to initiate contact with a registered Home Care provider to complete workplace-based experience to solidify your practical experience and skills in working with people in need of care (minimum 80 hours and maximum 240 hours).  This course has been specifically designed to develop the knowledge and skills required to work safely and effectively with aged and disabled individuals, providing an opportunity for those with a passion for helping and community care to take a leading role in the care of our aged and disabled community.

Note: If you decide to undertake the combined course option including TWO Certificates (Aged Care and Home & Community Care), you will be required to complete TWO work placements, one with a Home and Community Care provider AND the second in an Aged Care facility.
