Course Duration: You will have 12 months to complete the course from your enrolment date through online learning. Inspire Education has a continual intake of students on this basis.
Our Home and Community Care Course will give you the tools you need to support older people to maintain their independence, identify healthy body systems, provide support for people living with dementia and deliver care using a palliative approach.
Additionally, you will learn more generally how to: work effectively in the home and community sector; follow safety procedures; work effectively with other carers; and work with culturally diverse clients.
Expected Study Hours: There are a total of 1200 expected study hours for this course (including Vocational Placement). This equals approximately 23 hours of study per week, however, because you work at your own pace you may complete your course faster if you’d like!
Assessment Methods: Assessment is conducted using a combination of written questions, case studies, observation and a skills journal to give you maximum opportunity to develop your knowledge in aged care.
The Cert III in Home and Community Care is comprised of 9 core units, and 5 electives. This Home and Community Care course shares some units with other community care qualifications, such as the Certificate III in Aged Care (CHC30212) or the Certificate III in Disability (CHC30408). Students must undergo a police check for a criminal background in order to work in this field, and may have to undertake additional manual handling training before commencing Vocational Placement.
To successfully complete this qualification you will need to initiate contact with a registered Home Care provider to complete workplace-based experience to solidify your practical experience and skills in working with people in need of care (minimum 80 hours and maximum 240 hours). This course has been specifically designed to develop the knowledge and skills required to work safely and effectively with aged and disabled individuals, providing an opportunity for those with a passion for helping and community care to take a leading role in the care of our aged and disabled community.

Note: If you decide to undertake the combined course option including TWO Certificates (Aged Care and Home & Community Care), you will be required to complete TWO work placements, one with a Home and Community Care provider AND the second in an Aged Care facility. Costs associated with completing the required Police Check, Blue Card or Working With Children Check will be shouldered by the student.
